Synopsis:

Rachel White (Ginnifer), Darcy Rhone (Kate) and Ethan (John) are best friends for as long as they can remember. They we're inseparable since childhood. They have gone to the same schools and practically grew up together.
The movie opens as Rachel celebrates her 30th birthday on a bar which happens to be a surprise party for her prepared by her best friend Darcy. Everyone was there including Darcy's fiance Dex (Colin) who happens to be Rachel's classmates in law school, that she later introduced to Darcy and eventually the two (Darcy and Dex) became a couple.

Darcy had too many drinks that night and unconsciously left her purse on the bar. When Dex came back to get the purse for her, He never thought he would be getting so much more when He and Rachel decided to have a night cap, and had a serious heart to heart talk. Their time together rekindled old flames between them six years ago when they're still at law school.
Rachel confessed that she had a thing for Dex back then, and vice versa. They end up in bed and the story gets more and more exciting as they try to keep their "secret" relationship. Until...Ethan found out about it and to make the picture more complicated, He admits that he likes Rachel too. Darcy on the other hand, admits that she also cheated over Dex and get the biggest surprise of her life when she found out that Rachel and Dex are having an affair all along.

Following the complicated turn of events, the wedding of Darcy and Dex was instantly shelved. Darcy gets impregnated by a different guy. Ethan ends up being just a best friend to Rachel. Rachel and Dex had finally became an official couple.

Rachel and Darcy eventually reconcile after a few months.

What I like about the movie:

This movie was based on a book and i didn't get to read the book yet, so i have no comparison to the original story (if they changed some parts and stuffs).
I like the plot because even though it sounds so complicated at first, as you watch the movie and as you get the hang of the characters, you'll easily understand them and you wont have a hard time following the story.
Among the characters, i love Rachel and Darcy. I thought Ginnifer Godwin is like a breath of fresh air in this movie. Although her character is a little bit stiff, and not so much fun compared to Darcy, i think Rachel White was a well written character. Seeing her naive and conservative persona on the beginning and later it grows to a more go-getter type of woman, shedding a bit her goody two-shoe image and following her heart and pursuing the man of her dreams.

Darcy on the other hand, is the exact opposite of Rachel. She's loud, fun, cool and she always get what she wants. I think Kate Hudson is so good at portraying this "mean-girl" roles as i've seen her on "Bridewars" with the same type of character, only with Something Borrowed she is more bitchy. She is fun to watch though! Kate Hudson knows how to bitch it and still when she cries, she will affect you. She will get to you.

Another thing that i liked about the movie is--it is not boring. I must admit whether i like the scenes or not, it is definitely not a boring movie. The tension between Rachel and Dex's characters when Darcy is around is just very effective that in a way, it gets to you and you will eventually look forward on how things are going to turn up. Ethan is also another factor on the entertainment part of the movie, i really like how he and Rachel banters, and all the gay thing going on is just hilarious!

What I didn't like about the movie:

I didn't like DEX!!!! His character is so lame, and coward, and inconsiderate! LOL. Whatever Emily Giffin had in mind when she wrote Dex, i dont know but I really dont like what i saw in him. Being in the center of two strong-willed woman, he seemed a little weak and spineless. I mean, what kind of a man is that? He is always not sure of his feelings. It gets to a point where he is painful to watch and i cant stop hating his character towards the end. (even after He called off the wedding and finally made a brave decision.)

Well, im sorry if i kinda took out my annoyance on Dex (haha!) Anyway, on a lighter note i think his character was really supposed to be that way, if not then the plot would be so different. :-)

Favorite Quote from the movie:

“You are my best friend is the understatement of the century. You're the sister I never had. You're sometimes the mother I often need. The reason why I can't stumble so furiously into adventures, because she's always there. She is always, always there.” - Darcy

“He makes you the person you want to be, Instead of the person you are, and that, the idea of life without him is, not only unbearable, it's unimaginable.”
- Rachel

"I want not to want him." -Rachel

Overall Rating:

Fun movie about friendship, love, life. Sheer fun and entertainment. I love that this movie is so realistic. You could imagine this happening on real life.

Overall, i could say that like the movie. There are so many things to like about the movie. The casting, the lines, the plot and characters. The totality of it kind of worked together to create a nice, feel-good chick flick that is perfect on a friday night to watch with your girlfriends.

Not over the top. Just ENOUGH. :)

3 OUT OF FIVE STARS!
